Easy Steps to Becoming a Landlord with Bloomington Housing Authority

Step 1: Market Your Unit

Share your available unit details with us, including location, number of bedrooms, utilities the tenant will handle, monthly rent, security deposit, and your best contact information. Marketing your unit with us is optional but can help attract interested renters.

Step 2: Choose Your Tenant

Select a tenant that meets your screening criteria. While all landlords must consider voucher holders, you can use your own screening process, such as credit and background checks. Once you choose an HCV participant, they will present a Request for Tenancy Approval form for you to confirm the unit details, utilities, and rent.

Step 3: Make a Difference

Once the form is completed, it will be reviewed by the Housing Authority, and an inspection will be scheduled. After the unit passes inspection, you and the tenant sign a lease, and they can move in. We’ll then send you a Housing Assistance Payment Agreement, and payments will start on the next scheduled date.
